National Policy Forum on Policy Research to Foster Micro and Small Enterprises in Kenya (March 11 1997)

The primary objective of the Workshop was to review the status of existing policies affecting MSEs for which it is the responsibility of Central Government and the Local Authorities to implement, identify policy gaps, shortcomings and weaknesses in those policies and their implementation lacunae. It was expected that participants would discuss a specific set of policy recommendations and a policy research agenda to foster development of microenterprises in Kenya.

Brainstorming Workshop to Develop African Based Policy Research Agenda for Accelerated Development - ARAADA (March 24-26 1997)

The main objective of the workshop was to identify comparative studies, sub-regional issues and sub-Saharan development constraints that merit cooperative and joint multi-institute research, a focus which required sound policy research and strong linkages with governments. The workshop sought to identify a research agenda for accelerating African economic development by ensuring that indigenous policy research institutes in sub-Saharan Africa debate current and prospective economic and social problems facing sub-Saharan Africa focusing on problems common to many of the countries in the region and how these problems could be better addressed through the sharing of research results and the construction of comparative research projects. The immediate specific objective was to marshal the intellectual resources of Sub-Saharan Africa and to focus them upon the task of developing an African research agenda for accelerating development in Sub-Saharan Africa (ARAADA).

Training Seminar on Strategic Planning and Communication for Policy Research Institutes in Kenya (June 23-24 1997)

The objective of the training seminar was to enhance the capacity of selected Kenyan policy research institutes to have an impact on policy by increasing their skills in strategic planning and communication. The goal of the seminar was to provide participants with a set of tools for strategic planning and management of policy research institutes through more effective marketing of policy research outputs.

Conference on Southern Africa and Eastern Asia: Experiences and Opportunities in Development (1995)

The primary objective of the conference was to facilitate development of an augmented national capacity and analysis of development policies and management problems. Specifically, the conference was intended to address the relevance of recent East Asian development experience to the contemporary circumstances of countries in Southern Africa.
